Enforcement against contract violation in Chinese construction projects: impacts of trust and perceived intentionality

Violations happen frequently in construction projects due to opportunistic intentions and/or the lack of awareness obligations honest attempts react unforeseen circumstances. Dealing with contract violations plays an important role managing projects. The aim research is investigate impact trust, analyzed terms goodwill-based and competence-based on both social enforcement after a violation. A questionnaire survey, partially based semi-structured interviews, was used for data collection. All from Chinese industry since it provides fertile context explore questions. results show that: 1) reputation as practice severity reflected by scope disclosure, 2) two dimensions trust have opposite influences via different mediating effects perceived intentionality. Specifically, reduces decreasing intentionality, while increases increasing comprehensive nuanced understanding violation generated this research, which will help project managers manage interfirm relationships more effectively.
